HND Hospitality Management graduate Marcus Rawding excelled at Forth Valley College winning the Department of Hospitality and Salon Services top graduation award and the college’s Student of the Year.
Marcus (20) from Coalsnaughton, said: “In all honesty I was not aware there was such an award given at graduation, but I am pleased that I was chosen out of all other students. I wasn’t exactly sure what I had won or why, as there are were a number of students that were just as dedicated as me. But it was great to know I had won.
“I originally waned to study cooking and I was directed towards FVC upon leaving school, as it had good programs to get me started in this route and the Stirling Campus was easy to get to for me at the time.
“The facilities within the college are great and the same can be said for the lecturers. The qualification is the same regardless what college you get it from, but it’s the lecturers at FVC that keep you engaged and bring in their own knowledge and skills to help you progress further.
“I have gained a lot of knowledge of the hospitality industry which will be beneficial in the future and the course has also directed me towards a better goal within the hospitality industry.
“The college has helped me realise that I wish to focus more on a front of house role and look towards gaining managerial positions in the future and travelling to different places to gain as much experience as possible.
“As I have said the facilities within FVC are great and the staff are all so helpful. My advice would be to stick in through it all as there are going to be some boring and difficult bits, but is all worth it at the end to get the qualification.
“The best bit for myself was when I got to take part in the Restaurant Team of the Year competition in Sheffield where we managed to win. During this time we met some great people who were experts in their field and I learned so much while doing so and getting to go to Barcelona as a reward was a great experience."
