Former beauty therapist Lesley Hadfield’s chance encounter with a Forth Valley College learner advisor has reinvigorated her life and set her on course for a career in Administration.
Lesley (54), a mother of four from Tillicoultry, had been helping her 19 year-old daughter to decide on a HND Graphic Design course at the Stirling Campus, when she mentioned to the learner adviser of her desire to change tack in her career.
That afternoon she applied for a place on the NC Administration at the Alloa Campus, was accepted and she has never looked back.
Lesley, said: “I just got fed up with the job I was doing and the change to going on an Admin course at Forth Valley College happened by chance, when I was trying to get advice for my daughter who was looking to do a course at college as she did not feel ready to go to uni.
“I applied and was accepted and I loved the NC Admin course at the Alloa Campus. I had thought I would get a job after that, but I returned and have loved the first year of my HND even more.
“The Alloa Campus facilities are great and the lecturers support you 100% if you are prepared to put in the work. I would say that the college has definitely prepared me for the workplace. My Work experience at Scottish Autism has even resulted in me securing a part-time job with them which is great.
“They gave me loads to do and I must have done OK if they offered me the job. I absolutely love it there and I am using all the skills I have learned on my Admin course in the workplace which is great.
“Forth Valley College has certainly helped me onto the next step of my career and I would recommend the course and the college to anyone as they give you the experience and the support you need.
“I think the best bit so far has been challenging myself and learning something new everyday. Studying at FVC has invigorated my working life and given me so much confidence to put the skills I have learned into practice in the workplace.”
