Kyle Crews (18) is a former pupil at Lornshill Academy studied for an Engineering Foundation Apprenticeship.
Kyle, who attended college one day a week, said: “My careers advisor at Lornshill Academy recommended the course to me as she knew I wanted to get into engineering.
“It has been really good and I really enjoyed the practical work using lathes learning hand fitting skills. I feel the FA has allowed me to try out all different types of engineering disciplines and I think electrical is the one for me.
“Now I am looking to try to secure a Modern Apprenticeship and hopefully my work experience will help me do that. It has helped me onto the next step of my career. The way I look at it is like putting hot water into a kettle and then switching it on… it will take less time to boil!
“It is definitely worthwhile and I would recommend that senior school pupils think about Foundation Apprenticeships as the lecturers and facilities are good – and going to get even better when the new Falkirk Campus is completed.”
