Jade Hughes (18) a former pupil from Falkirk High School studied for her Engineering Foundation Apprenticeship at Forth Valley College.
Jade, who attended college one day a week, said: “I found out about the Foundation Apprenticeships on the through the college website. I had gone for an interview for another course and done so well that they offered me a place on the FA Engineering – which is what I want to do.
“I really like it a lot and I prefer the practical aspect to the course rather than the class work, though I do realise that is very important. We have been working on computer graphics, engineering materials and also getting into the workshops for hand fitting and making things on the lathes – which I think is the best bit for me.
“I would recommend it as at the end of it you will have a great qualification for your CV and you will have carried out some work experience. I failed some exams last year in school, but this course has put me in a great position. With the electrical experience I have had in the FA, it really has been worth it as I will be looking to secure a Modern Apprenticeship in engineering when I leave school.”
