Declan Carson (20) a NQ Pathway Health Fitness and Exercise student from Denny- has made a splash by landing a lifeguard job directly from studying at Forth Valley College.
The College’s Care, Health and Sports Department works closely with Falkirk Community Trust to arrange external Pool Lifeguard courses and these courses are usually held within Falkirk Council Secondary Schools and local Sports Centres with pools.
Declan jumped at the chance and has landed a job at The Peak in Stirling.
He said: “I was given the opportunity to have a taster of all the courses and it allowed me to see what I wanted to do and the further I went I realised that was the environment I thrive in.
“At FVC the lecturers and facilities are brilliant as they give you the tools you need to expand your education. Over the past five years – I started at the college after taking part in the School Collge Opportunity to Succeed (SCOTS) programme - it has allowed me to gather the skills and experience I need to go on to what I’ve planned to do in the sport and fitness industry.
“The college has helped me by giving me the tools I needed to attain my goals that I wanted to achieve with learning aspects of each part of the industry. It has inspired me to get a job as a sports attendant at The Peak sports complex in Stirling.
“High school wasn’t the right learning environment for me, I had an opportunity to come to the college in 2013 and the environment was the right place for me to thrive. The courses I have done to get to where I am, have given me the right set of skills for each part of the industry I’m going in to and will help me to open up doors for my future of working in this field. It has been an incredible journey.”
