Dale Carberry (18) a former pupil at Lornshill Academy studied for an Engineering Foundation Apprenticeship at Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus.
Dale, who attended college one day a week, said: “My careers advisor knew I was interested in engineering and something I wanted to do and pointed me in the direction of this Foundation Apprenticeship.
“It has definitely been just what I was looking for as we certainly wouldn’t be doing anything like this at school and I believe it will help me onto the next step of my career.
“I really enjoy the practical side of things here at the college on the FA. The lecturers are all a great help and the facilities a very good. It is different from school and we are treated like adults. It is more relaxed and suits me much better.
“I would definitely recommend the Foundation Apprenticeship to senior school pupils as it is a foot in the door with employers.
“I would now like to secure an apprenticeship as a coppersmith with Diageo – where I am currently on work experience – and I have applied, so fingers crossed.”
Dale is now on a Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering at Forth Valley College.
