Catriona Wear’s experience of Forth Valley College has shown her that you are never too old to study and learn.
The 45 year-old former HNC Childhood Practice student from Cambus, Clackmannanshire, said: “It was an amazingly powerful experience for me as I had not studied since 1998.”
Catriona, who recently secured work as an Early Learning and Childhood Educator at Menstrie Nursery under the auspices of Clackmannanshire Council, went on: “I chose to study at Forth Valley College due to it being really close to where I live and also through word of mouth, as I had heard it was a great place to study from past students.
“The facilities were lovely. Lots of light and different spaces to sit and chat or study. The rooms were clean and bright and inviting and the canteen was always full of great food and drinks with plenty space to sit. The library was great, well stocked and had really helpful staff. The College is also easily accessible by car or by bus.
“As for the lecturers that I had… all three of them were outstanding! They were kind, friendly, approachable, very informative and responsive to all the different needs and questions asked. I especially liked the fact that they treated everyone with respect and equality. They were fantastic support and were able to be reached easily through email or Microsoft Teams.
“I was a Childminder for 14 years before I enrolled with FVC in Childhood Practice and it was the best move I have ever made. It gave me the knowledge to take my career in Childcare to the next level. As much as I enjoyed working for myself, I felt that something was missing and attending placement made me realise that I wanted to continue working with young people and families, but in a much more supported role and with a team of like-minded colleagues.
“I would recommend the College to everyone. It is a great place to study with a fantastic level of support and also a great way to meet new people that are studying the same course.
“The best bit for me, well… I would say that I loved to study and learn and I also met the nicest people. I made new friends and most of all, I proved to myself that I could do it and achieve what I really wanted regardless of my age. Going to college gave me the skills to advance my career.
Summing up her experience at Forth Valley College in three words, Catriona, said: “Exciting, challenging and fun.”
