HND Professional Cookery – Patisserie student Alexander Turner is getting ready to mix it with the best young bakers in Scotland at the World Skills event in Glasgow on Thursday 15 June.
Alexander (26) from Falkirk has been preparing for the national heats at the Forth Valley College Stirling Campus and is hoping to rise to the challenge and make it through to the next stage of the competition.
Alexander, said: “I am nervous about the competition, but excited at the same time as I have never done anything like this before. I do know that I would not have had the confidence to enter for World Skills if it was not for the course and its lecturers.
“I have really enjoyed studying on the HND Professional Cookery. I had always wanted to become a cook, but when I left school I just moved into customer service jobs. However, my wife Skye encouraged me and I applied.
“Martin Rodgers, one of my lecturers, has been fantastically supportive and he and others encouraged me to enter. I completed the online theory test and was invited to take part.
“I don’t have a full brief yet of what we will be asked to do, but I am sure it will involve a chocolate pudding, a pasty product and a mystery product, and I can’t wait to get started.
“I would definitely recommend the course and the College 100%, if you are considering Hospitality as a career. Why not give it a go?”
