Modern Apprentice of the Year for 2017 - Aimee Kerr – has progressed quickly in her career since graduating with a Hospitality Services SVQ Level 5.
Aimee (19) from Bo'ness, worked through her MA qualification at the Canalside Pub & Grill in Reddingmuirhead, before moving on to the Leapark Hotel in Grangemouth where she worked as a receptionist. She now works as an assistant manager at the Oxgang House Hotel in Grangemouth.
Aimee, said: “When I heard about this course through my work, I thought it would be such a good thing for me and I was correct. It was great as I got assessed on my actual work rather than what I can learn from a lesson. The college was also very handy for me and I had heard a lot of great things about the assessors as they are very supportive of your goals and helping you through the qualification.
“They were both extremely helping and encouraging during the whole year and they kept me motivated and informed, while also being very friendly and patient with me. I'm glad I choose to study here.
“Completing this qualification has shown my employers and myself that I am ready and willing to take on more roles and responsibilities. I am also trying to learn more about the hospitality industry in all departments and hope that this will take me further down that road.
“I was able to achieve this qualification while working and that is what makes me highly recommend a course like this with FVC. I'm the type of person that will learn more efficiently and quicker while on the job, so for me this experience was highly enjoyable and educational. I learned a lot throughout the past year, but there is still a lot to learn and FVC really helped me see that. I would highly recommend it to people that want to learn more.
“At school I wasn't the school captain or a prefect, or involved in a lot of things as it just wasn't for me. But I always tried to help where I could. I really enjoy what I do, so to be able to say I have achieved all of this while not being the most perfect student that ever was, makes me very proud of myself.
“I was surprised but also very excited to have won MA of the Year at the FVC graduation ceremony! I never thought I would ever win an award for completing my course while just doing my job.”
