A group of five students from the Alloa Campus and seven from the Falkirk Campus – accompanied by two Workstart students Maimie Rodgers (17) from Falkirk and Logen Ludwig (18) from Stirling – worked their magic at three sites across Falkirk to earn one of Scotland’s Colleges first ever Volunteering Awards.
Woodland around the Falkirk Wheel, Callander Park’s grounds and the Action Outdoors Centre at Brightons were the areas that the FVC students created new paths, built dry stone walls, encouraged wildlife habitats and cut back overgrowth as part of their course.
This valuable work – which was organised through Green Action, British Waterways Trust (Scotland) and Action Outdoors - was recognised by Scotland’s Colleges who presented all those who participated with a certificate and the group as a whole with £100.
Access and Progression department lecturer Marguerite McCreath, said:
“All my students are delighted with the award and very proud of themselves. They have all worked extremely hard and the project encouraged a lot of teamwork which was great to see. They have used tools and equipment they probably would never have been able to use and the whole project has been very worthwhile.”
Those eligible for certificates include; James Bilsbrough (18) from Stirling, Jack Fullerton (20) from Stirling, Mhairi Dawson (20) from Clackmannan, Ashleigh McRobbie from Tillicoultry, Jenna Stojanovic (21) from Sauchie, Agnes Blair (20) from Denny, Craig Bryans (19) from Camelon, Christopher Buchanan (21) from Falkirk, Mhairi Leishman (21) from Falkirk, Robyn McDonald (19) from Falkirk, Jordan Nicholls (18) from Bo’ness and Mark Wotton (20) from Cumbernauld.
