Therese Cannon (47) and Marie O’Hare (47) – who both work for the Glasgow based Action For Children charity, fostering children aged between 12 and 18 years – were presented with their scrolls by guest speaker Brian McQuade the Managing Director Scotland of Miller Construction (UK) Ltd.
A total of 124 students were eligible to graduate at the event which was attended by FVC Principal Linda McKay and Hugh Hall Chairman of the FVC Board of Management who both addressed the audience. Depute Principal Dr Ken Thomson read out the names of those collecting their scrolls.
Therese said:
“Thank goodness it’s finished, but it has been worth it. It’s been a long haul for me, someone who has been away from an educational environment for so long. Very enlightening.
“Marie and I were both at school together, were bridesmaids for each other and worked in the 1314 Bar in Bannockburn together so you could say we have encouraged each other throughout our lives and this course has been no different!”
Marie, whose family run the 1314 Bar in Bannockburn, said: “There were times when we both thought we were going to pack it in – but we kept each other going. The qualification is certainly going to help us in our careers and to graduate in such a fantastic place has been great.
“Now we are off together with our families for a celebratory holiday in the sun and we’ll definitely enjoy ourselves!”
