FVC Summer Salon Success

Hairdressing and Beauty students at FVC’s Raploch Community Campus were able to earn while they learned throughout the summer due to an innovative rent a chair scheme.

Hair stylists and beauty therapists were able to hire a salon chair out over the holidays to enhance their experience, while still under the supervision of lecturing staff who were only too keen to continue the learning process during their time off.

Gail Jones, Salon Manager of Salon Services at FVC said:

“The 10 students who took part in this commercial venture gained a great experience in running the salon just like a small business, building on their confidence and their clientele. This opportunity allowed our clients to continue having the professional service provided to them through the year rather than just term time.

“It has been a great success and we hope to run the scheme again next year and roll it out to salons at our other campuses in Falkirk and Alloa. It has been a real team effort and the students have been great, learning and earning at the same time.”

Student Vari (19) from Alloa, said: “I really enjoyed myself. It was a great experience and helped to build up my confidence and allowed me become faster at all services.”

Classmate Chelsea (17) from Tullibody, said: “It was like working in a real salon through the summer!”
