Kalene Hunter (21) from Bannockburn, who is currently studying for an HNC in Early Years and Childcare, scored 100 per cent in the Intermediate online quiz which she completed at the Alloa Campus in late May.
As part of her prize she and FVC Student Liaison Officer Suzanne Crawford, were flown down to the bank’s London HQ in Canary Wharf for a special career day full of workshops, talks on how to conduct yourself in interviews and advice on what opportunities are available at Barclays Bank.
Around 60 students and staff from across the UK attended the event including: all the Money Tips Winners from the eight English regions, those from Scotland and Wales and the Beginner and Intermediate quiz winners.
The event was organised by Barclays bank in conjunction with the National Skills Academy for Financial Services to promote good practise in personal finance among students and Kalene was presented with a winners’ certificate for her efforts.
Kalene, said:
“I was really surprised to win the Intermediate quiz as I didn’t even know that it was being entered into the competition. I had a great time on the trip down to London and the event at Canary Wharf was very worthwhile. I only wished I had a little longer to look around London.
“I would encourage all students to really get a grip on their personal finances as it’s very important to stay as debt free as you can.”
Mhairi Harvey FVC Learner Development Worker, said: “ I was delighted that one of my students won the prize. I actually felt like I had won it myself. It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving girl. Kalene was a popular member of the class, always pleasant and friendly, a hardworking student.”
Sylvia Perrins, CEO, National Skills Academy for Financial Services, said: “Rising costs, lack of funds and the continued instability in the job market serves as a poignant reminder that the financial decisions students make are of utmost importance. Many young people are beginning to improve their personal money management skills, and Kalene Hunter’s performance in the Money Skills quiz is a great example of this.”
