Log On To Learning at the Library

Forth Valley College and Stirling Council have teamed up once again to build on the success of similar initiatives in the Stirling area. The Learn @ The Library programme will offer local people the opportunity to access simple and effective training in everything from IT, communication and basic computer skills to health and safety, finance and personal development, as well as even more advanced courses.

All library users and Forth Valley College students can sign up for the courses, which run for between 20 to 160 hours and cost anything between £20 to £280.

As well as local libraries, the courses can be studied at any Forth Valley College learning centre, in the workplace, or at home and at a time and pace to suit your own lifestyle and learning level. Once enrolled, students will be able to access one-to-one support which will be available by telephone, e-mail or through the internet.

Ann Barr (63) a former Prison Education Manager from Dunblane said:

I use the library in Dunblane regularly as I feel it is such an important resource. I saw a Forth Valley College Open Day advertised and attended. I noticed the Learn @ The Library courses were flexible and that suited me perfectly as I could study in my own time and at my own pace.

Since last September I have now completed four courses dealing with Word, the Internet and even databases. I retired eight years ago, but was still keen to learn new skills. The courses have given me a lot more confidence on the computer and allowed me to master the basics once again and I am interested in learning more.

The Learning Centre Assistants have been excellent and are very pleasant and approachable. They also understand that you are an adult learner and they share their time with the class appropriately. I would definitely recommend it and it was also a good way to meet people with similar interests.”
