Ready, Steady...Achieve an HNC in Just 5 Months
The race is on to find learners interested in gaining a fast track Higher National qualification after Forth Valley College announced they would be launching two new courses in the New Year.
A Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Tourism will be available at the college’s Stirling Campus and an HNC in Computing will be offered in Falkirk.
Traditionally an HNC takes one year to complete however the college has designed an intensive programme to cover all the content in just five months. Both tourism and computing have been identified as key industries where employment opportunities are still buoyant.
The full-time courses will start in January and are being tipped as the perfect solution for learners looking to gain skills and knowledge quickly.
The fast track programmes will appeal to a wide range of audiences including school leavers, those affected by redundancy who are looking to re-train or people interested in a career change who do not want to take too much time out of work.
The courses will provide an excellent opportunity to bring a CV up-to-date and also gain an academic reference which will be beneficial when seeking employment.
Gail Fertacz, Associate Principal for Curriculum, Quality and Learning Services said:
“These courses will be a very attractive option for those looking to re-skill quickly and effectively. Learners will achieve a nationally recognised qualification in a short period of time allowing faster progression to employment or further study.
“There is no difference between these qualifications and the traditional one-year SQA programme. Learners will cover exactly the same number of units and high quality content. However those on the fast track programmes will attend college on additional days in order to complete the courses by June 2011.
“The result is two excellent Higher National programmes which meet the needs of the current employment and training markets. They will be very worthwhile qualifications for all those who achieve them.”
