A total of 15 students completed the course on Monday May 5th. The Army hopefuls – who hope to raise more than £1000 for the Help For Heroes Charity - set off from the Falkirk Wheel along the Union Canal to Ratho near Edinburgh, before turning round and finishing their quest back at the Falkirk Wheel.
Military personnel returning from Afghanistan were very much in the minds of the students who helped to organise the event as they look to pursue a career in the armed forces themselves. The college hopes the students will gain a worthwhile sense of achievement from the challenge of raising money for the good cause and cycling the 50 mile route.
The event was a fitting send off for course instructor - Colour Sergeant Stevie Main (33) – who is gearing up for a tour of duty to Afghanistan with 2 Regiment of Scotland
He said: “The Army Preparation students put in a great effort to complete the 50 mile cycle and raise a lot of money for a good cause in the process. I am very proud of them indeed.”
