Nearly 1400 people – including 500 secondary school pupils from across the Forth Valley area – made their way to the main hall at the college’s Falkirk Campus last Wednesday where lecturers from all eight departments were on hand to give demonstrations, outline options and give advice
Information on full-time, part-time, community learning, evening classes, Modern Apprenticeships and options to study by flexible learning was also available on the day. In addition visitors could also find valuable details on the sources of student finance which can be accessed by school leavers, mature students and employed people seeking to undertake evening classes.
Associate Principal Curriculum, Quality and Learning Services, Gail Fertacz said: “This year’s Open Day had a new format where we worked closely with Skills Development Scotland – Careers to bus in students from schools all across the Forth Valley area and it has proved to be a great success.
“SDS - Careers had a stand to offer advice on job paths, the Army had an information point on the day, the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board – ECITB were recruiting for Modern Apprentices and even Central FM had a presenter broadcasting live on air from the event. There was also a constant stream of senior secondary school pupils coming through the door at staggered times throughout the day.
“The place was really buzzing and the feedback we have already received has been really positive. I’m sure it is a formula we will try to repeat in the future as it shows that Forth Valley College is at the forefront of people’s minds when they consider further education in this area.”
