Beavers Badge Quest at FVC

A Beaver group from Torwood got their teeth into the world of science recently when they visited Forth Valley College’s Falkirk labs to perform experiments for a special badge.

A total of 23 Beaver Scouts from the 2nd Torwood Scout Group donned lab coats and protective gloves and glasses to be put through their paces to make chemical volcanoes and balloon rockets by expert college lecturers.

Mhairi Hay, Curriculum Quality Leader in the Science and Computing Department, said: “All the Beaver Scouts seemed to really enjoy themselves and were quite excited by the experiments they had to complete.”

Steve Parker, Assistant Beaver Scout Leader for the 2nd Torwood Scout Group, said: “We are always looking for new things for the Beaver Scouts to try out and always want to make the activities exciting and fresh and not the stuff they might already get taught at school – this certainly fitted the bill!

“It is always good to do something away from the Scout Hall in an exciting environment that can count towards a badge – in this case the Beaver Scout Experimenter Badge. Everyone got involved and really enjoyed themselves and we hope we can do this again at Forth Valley College.”
