Martha's New Look is Front Page News

A St Mungo’s High School pupil’s exciting new make-up style has been chosen to front the UK’s City and Guilds beauty student log-books.

Martha Ritchie (15) from Falkirk – who studies for her NVQ level 1 Certificate in Salon Services  at Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus two afternoons a week – entered a national competition to find the new log-book cover by sending in photographs of her very own creations.

Her styles and looks wowed the judges who had to sift through dozens of entrants from across the UK. Now Martha will travel to London later this month where she will get to create an original design on a professional model, pictures of which will make up the cover of the new national student log-books.

Martha, currently in 4th year, said: “I was really shocked and delighted at the same time to have been chosen to create the look for the front of the log books and my mum, dad and big sister are really proud of me.

“I really like art at school and would love to have a career as a make-up artist and hopefully progress to work in make-up for theatre, film, music videos and the fashion industry’s catwalks.

“My lecturers at Forth Valley College have been great and very supportive since I started doing this course when I was in third year. Winning this log book opportunity along with all the things I have learned here is a great start and will be fantastic for my portfolio.”

Lisa Evitt, FVC’s Depute Head of Leisure Industries said: “We are absolutely delighted for Martha who is a very talented student in our School/College Consortium Beauty classes.

“She has quickly developed her own unique style which has obviously really impressed the judges who are all experts in this field. We are very proud of her achievements and hope she will continue her studies here at Forth Valley College when she leaves school.”

Stephen Phee, Rector at St Mungo’s High School, said: “Martha is a lovely, very able and creative pupil. Her work in Art is superb and she recently received a credit grade in prelim exams. She is a credit to her family and the school. We are delighted at her achievements.”
