A local legend has been revived by Forth Valley College learner Steven Ingram following a competition to design a mascot for Beatson Building Supplies Limited’s two divisions - Beatsons Building Supplies and Skyline Roofing Supplies.
Steven (31) from Linlithgow, who is currently studying for an HND Visual Communication, put a modern spin on old favourite Bobby Beatson and also created new friend Suzy Skyline.
The new characters will be the faces of the organisations as they move forward and will help them to develop their profiles particularly on social networking sites.
Steven will play a crucial role in the development of the characters and will work on this over the summer as part of a two month’s paid placement – his prize for winning the competition.
Steven said: “I was delighted to win the competition as the placement will offer me great work experience. By working on real graphic design projects, I’ll be able to develop a wide range of skills and learn how to adapt my skills to any type of job. I’ve always enjoyed graphic design and this will allow me to pursue my dreams to work in the field.”
Mark Northway, Financial Director at Beatson Building Supplies said: “We were looking to create personas for the companies and approached the college to see if we could get their learners involved in a competition. It was a good opportunity to get some fresh ideas and also offer valuable work experience for someone.
“We received a few good entries however Steven’s hit the mark. The characters met all the criteria we had asked for – Bobby was strong and likeable and Suzy was fresh faced and friendly. We could see their personalities shining through and the potential for development.
“The characters will really rejuvenate the face of both organisations and we look forward to working with Steven over the summer.”
