Primary and nursery school teachers were introduced to STEM subjects at a special Continual Professional Development (CPD) session held at Forth Valley College recently.

The main hall in the Falkirk Campus was the venue for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths event on Tuesday 14 May, where teachers were given the opportunity to try out some fun, hands on activities and meet FVC’s STEM Ambassadors and Outreach Team.

Those attending also had the opportunity to find out more about the College’s current P5-P7 STEM Outreach Programme and register their interest for the 2019/2020 school term.

The Engineering and Science Department have created a Moodle platform fittingly entitles STEM Pick n Mix (link: https://moodle.forthvalley.ac.uk/moodle/course/view.php?id=3147) for teachers to access tried and tested Science and Engineering experiments covering all Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) key concepts.

At the event, a market stall showcased the Technobox (Electrical Engineering for hire), STEM in a bag - five experiments to take away - and examples of activities from the Moodle page.  FVC were also promoting their Making STEM Work ‘The Famous Four save the Planet’ program that will run again from August 2019 for P5-P7 classes in the Forth Valley after a successful pilot phase spanning the last six months.
