Sound Production students help local musician on latest project
NPA group with Scott and Barry

High school pupils studying for a NPA Sound Production course at Forth Valley College have been helping a prominent local musician with his latest charity EP.

Americana and Country music artist Scott Ashworth’s ‘Casualties of War’ EP is a fundraiser for Combat Stress, a charity providing crucial mental health support to veterans from the UK Armed Forces.

And he was delighted to allow students on the popular school-link course – led by lecturer Neil Martin - to help out in the recording and production at the College’s Stirling Campus studios. Neil’s colleague Barry Frame who has also worked with Scott, also popped in to lend a hand on Friday 26 April.

Barry Frame, said: “I had the pleasure of working with Neil Martins' NPA Sound Production class at the Stirling Campus. It was my first time collaborating with them, and let me tell you, I was thoroughly impressed. The level of talent and professionalism they displayed in the studio, while assisting Scott Ashworth with his new Charity EP was nothing short of remarkable.

“The students — Libby Cullen, Rudi Wallace, and Corin McDonald — were genuinely excited to work with a professional musician, especially knowing it was for such a meaningful cause. They wasted no time diving in, asking all the right questions to ensure everything was set up perfectly for the session. Their adaptability in handling different microphone techniques and troubleshooting was truly impressive.

“Overall, it was a fantastic effort from Neil and his class all in support of a truly worthy cause.”

Scott, said: "The students at Forth Valley College were a great help in the recording session I did recently. After directions from Barry and Neil, they were able to quickly set up the studio with the required equipment and get everything ready to go, and seemed genuinely interested in the project and the reasons behind it. As someone who's served and still works for the Ministry of Defence, this cause hits close to home for me."

Forth Valley College expertise also recently helped Scott’s album reach number two in the charts – only beaten to the number one spot by Taylor Swift! ‘Ghosts and Broken Men’ reached second spot on the iTunes Country Chart, and the popular musician was delighted with the input from Sound Production Lecturer Barry Frame and his students over a three year period.
