Go Forth students have raised £462.52 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) by climbing Dumyat hill in the Ochils, as part of their Improving Wellbeing unit.

The students, who are all in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction issues, aimed to raise awareness of the strong link between addiction and mental health and wanted to donate their sponsored money to SAMH.

The group were joined on their climb by staff from Recovery Scotland staff and two lecturers from FVC, Ruth Davis and Andy Wake.

Ruth said: “The group worked hard to raise sponsorship, invite others to take part in the climb and donate to a great charity. The climb was a challenge for some of the group and it was pretty chilly at the top but we all made it!”

Marilyn Boyd, SAMH Community Events Fundraiser, expressing gratitude for the student’s efforts, said: “What an incredible amount to have raised and well done to all on completing the challenge.”

The College is in partnership with Recovery Scotland and the Go Forth course is delivered as an access course open to people who are in recovery and members of the Forth Valley Recovery Community.
