A quartet of HND Events Management students volunteered recently to help out at the Falkirk 10K Trail run – which was organised by Forth Valley College’s EPOS Coordinator Robert Myler.

The four first year students: Joanne Messner, Eilidh Dunning, Emily Bekier-Macintyre and Niamh Teresa Hutchinson, pitched up early at Callendar Park on Sunday 24 March to assist with course set up, runner registration and marshalling duties.

Robert Myler, said: “A total of 215 people took part and we got the weather which was brilliant. We are already looking forward to next year. The events students who helped out were immense and we couldn’t have done it without them. Thanks also to the FVC Hospitality department who provided snacks for the participants on the day.”

FVC Events Management Lecturer Chris Foote, said: “The inaugural event organized by Robert and the ‘Everyrunner’ events team was a complete sell out and gave the students great hands-on experience at a hugely successful event. We are very much looking forward to supporting future Everyrunner events later in the year.

“I was really proud of the students’ efforts in supporting an exciting new event for the area.  Not put off by a 7.30am Sunday morning start, it was great to see the group putting into practice some of theory we've covered this year.”

Runners in this year’s Falkirk 10K Trail Race also received sustenance at the event from Forth Valley College’s Hospitality Department.

Fruit, cakes, snacks and cups were provided by the College department to help support race organiser Robert Myler provide the best possible experience for those who entered the charity event.

Robert, along with FVC Active Travel Coordinator and Forth Valley Student Association President Steve Kemlo, recently started a College Running Club on a Wednesday from 4pm to help students and staff get fit, but also to encourage them to enter the Falkirk 10K Trail Race.

As a result of the event £250 has been donated to the Scott Martin Foundation and £250 to the Trussell Trust Food Bank.
