Forth Valley College has hosted the second College Development Network (CDN) College Expo Roadshow event, themed this year as ‘Developing Practice Across Tertiary Education’ – billed as the most exciting professional learning event for tertiary education in Scotland.

On Thursday 20 April FVC’s Falkirk College hosted a seminar on ‘Professional Learning’ from 1.30pm-4pm. It was chaired by Principal Professor Ken Thomson and boasted a panel including: Hazel Brady, Director of Faculty for Business, West Lothian College; Morag Ferguson, Dean for Staff Development Academy, New College Lanarkshire; Abi Mawhirt, Head of People and Organisational Development, Dundee and Angus College; Mandy Wallace, Learning and Teaching Innovation Manager, Dumfries and Galloway College and our own Helen Young, Head of Learning and Quality, Forth Valley College.

The first Roadshow took place on Tuesday 28 March, at Borders College, exploring ‘Student Experience‘ and the final one of three will be at UHI Inverness on Thursday 25 May covering the subject of ‘Curriculum Design’.

Discussion at FVC focused on the topic of professional learning, specifically on what approaches are in place across the sector. This was an opportunity to explore how participants can make professional learning more effective, taking into consideration challenges identified in the CDN Workforce Survey - time, access to materials and lack of budget.

This Hybrid event was an excellent networking opportunity and the chance to meet CDN’s wonderful Research and Enhancement Centre Team either in person or online via CDN's Virtual Conference Centre.
